Daniel Vedberg Sekulic He says it was from Russian weapons, but the bolt system is obviously inspired by the M1 Garand.

Point number one, the AK was not his first rifle design. He did not work alone. He's not some absolutely solo gun designer. All of that said, if you can understand how significantly different the system is, then you'll understand that they are absolutely different guns. Plus, Russians had been developing intermediate cartridges before WW2. The 763x39 first prototypes were getting tested in 43. You have multiple countries developing the same concept at the same time. The M1 Carbine, is a intermediate cartridge rifle that predates the STG44, with removable magazines... The GERMANS COPIED THE US! That is literally what you are arguing. It is literally that weak of an argument. Just because something from the exterior looks similar does not mean it's the same thing, or developed the same way. Ergo, the VZ58 is not a STG or an AK.

Czorńy Lisek #3 the issue with the M16 wasn't the fact it was "dirty" it had to do with a few last minute changes. They pulled chrome lining the bores, changed the powder load to a faster burning powder and did not issue cleaning kits. All of those issues fed towards unreliability with the initial issues. The firerate was significantly increased, and the guns were attempting to unlock with an overpressure chamber. If they left the gun in its proper guise, we wouldn't talk about the failures. Those were changes from pencil pushing politicians and not the firearm designers.
