@rags417 Top five countries with Gun ownership - 1. USA 2. Falkland Islands, 3. Yemen 4. New Caledonia 5. Serbia. Top 5. country Murder Rates 1. Honduras 2. Venezuela 3. US Virgin Islands 4. Belize 5. El Salvador. - Lastly "Of the 86 countries where we have identified mass public shootings, the US ranks 56th per capita in its rate of attacks and 61st in mass public shooting murder rate. " - Once again False Dichotomy. Statistically Gun ownership does influence suicide rates (only with men). Do some research before you assume you know better than the whole world sir. Also if you want to know one of the big differences, depending on where you look at specific statistics for "mass murder/shootings" varies. According to where I live, Australia has had at least 7 mass murder events within in the last year. Gun laws be damned.

@rags417 Lastly, according to studies - a country with a much looser selection of gun Laws - CANADA - Is ranked above Australia in safety by more than 7 countries. So I will say again. False dichotomy. Not that proper gun control is a bad idea. But presuming legislation will resolve everything is beyond stupid. Case in Point - Countries with the death penalty for drug use. They have no addicts anymore right? Everything is safe from drugs? No. We all know the western hemisphere's war on drugs won right? Oh wait....it didn't.

@milamber319 Guns are not required for terrible behavior. OK city? 9/11? France's truck attacks? Charlie Hebdo - those weren't from guns laying around. Red Herring argument.

@faolan1686 My point still stands, laws in and of themselves do not alter human behavior. That doesn't matter where you live. You can get executed for drug trafficking in China and other areas of southeast Asia. I believe this week there were two Canadians who were given death penalties in China for trafficking drugs (but it could have been in the last month). My point isn't that no rules is the best thing ever, it's that assuming that a law on the books alters people is wrong. It will only alter the people who abide by the laws in the first place. So, yelling about how other countries need to alter their laws to what you are comfortable with, is a poor starting place. Yes, I don't live in Australia, but saying that your laws have effectively stopped all issues is just wrong. For a second, lets remove the hot button issue, firearms. How long as murder been illegal? Has that stopped murder?

@davesmith3289 Laws will not make people ethical. Wholesale banning of items does not stop people who have intent. I'm sorry that, that concept is difficult for you. Just like the death penalty doesn't stop people from murder. Sort of like how the experiment of banning alcohol worked super effectively to stop....Oh wait it didn't. It actually increased the power of organized crime.
