@user-wq9mw2xz3j US democracy is not perfect, still it's 100 times better than Turkey's democracy

@DoofyGilmore1299 Just wait until after election date and you will see the application be swiftly accepted. It's just a show for the voters, play the strongman card. As soon as election is won (or lost) Sweden and Finland will be accepted. Turkish politics is whatever Erdogan wants it to be, the Turkish parliament will do whatever the leader says. That's how you stay in power for 20 years.

Well Erdogan won't be there forever. Election is coming up this summer and Erdogan's poll numbers have been abysmal for a long time.

@SelfProclaimedEmperor There is no guarantee the next guy in line will be any better but I agree Turkish people are fine, just a bad leader.

@JAKE-ng8yr Turkey is not in NATO for it's army size, it's there because strategic position. Army size matters little in war. The Americans needed only 30.000 soldiers to take Baghdad a city with a 8-9 million population in the Iraq war. Quality will always beat quantity any day of the week. Numbers won't do you any good if they turn and run as soon as they get into battle.

Yeah of course the deportation issues needs to follow Swedish law and the Swedish constitution why would they want to suddenly adapt Turkish law? That makes little sense. Sweden is not a Turkish vassal, they have their own set of laws and regulations to follow.

Because the problem is not Turkey it's Erdogan and he won't be supreme leader forever. Although 20 years in power is impressive he can't do it forever.

I am pretty sure if it's something they wanted to do then it's not a big issue. Worst case you can just create a new alliance and invite everyone except Turkey. For all Turkey's fault they do have a great strategic importance though so it's extremely unlikely anyone would do such a thing. Besides the problem is not Turkey it's Erdogan and he won't be there forever. Things change.
2
Well they were invited before Erdogan came into power. I know they are kind of trash in foreign relations but that's got nothing to do with Turkish people or the nation as a whole just Erdogan. Turkey is not the issue Erdogan is, and he won't be around forever.
2
@Salarat What do you mean Turkey allowed Greece to join? Turkey had no part in allowing Greece to join NATO Turkey and Greece joined at the same date lol.
2
Doesn't matter even if he wins he has no reason to block NATO anymore. He is just trying his best to win votes for the election. Don't be surprised if Sweden and Finland is welcomed shortly after election, even if he wins.

sherlocat1946 Relax, Turkish politics is Erdogan. The guy has been in power for 20 years. If the next dictator in line for a 20 year run is western friendly then things can change over night. Election is coming up soon and Erdogan's numbers are looking really bad. Who knows?

Relax man Turkey is not Erdogan. He has been in power for 20 years and he controls the Turkish parliament and the Turkish courts. Once he is gone which might happen sooner rather than later due to the elections Turkey could potentially get a new leader that's more interested to lean west.
