@gwent5914 It's not political the IAEA said it's safe and they are following protocols just as all other countries dumping nuclear water into the ocean do. You thought Japan was the only country putting nuclear water into the Ocean? It's common practice and there are protocols for it to do it in a safe manner.

Every country with a nuclear powerplant is releasing nuclear wastewater into the sea after it is treated lol, is this the first time you heard of it?

@youme1414 It's not really big news outside of China and Russia though. We have been releasing nuclear wastewater into the ocean ever since we opened the first nuclear powerplant. It's not really anythning new.
3
Yep it's mostly about reputational damage which will result in economical losses, the ocean and the environment won't change much.
3
@jjiale China and Russia already release nuclear wastewater into the ocean, so does the UK, US and France. Why do you think there are protocols to release nuclear wastewater into the ocean? Because nations have been doing it for as long as we've had nuclear powerplants.
3
Because all their storage facilities are at full capacity and they cannot put any more water into it so they need to release it or build new storage facilities. Building new ones are VERY expensive and the IAEA has said it's safe to release the water so naturally they went for the cheaper alternative as it's deemed safe.

People will forget about it in days and go back to life as usual once the fear has settled.

Sharing is caring after all.

Who would ban Japanese products though? Just try to avoid Japanese seafood for a while.

@nicolastseng It's not big news because nuclear wastewater is being released into the ocean by all nations having nuclear powerplants. It's happening every day since we started using nuclear powerplants. There is no need to try to act this is a new thing, it is not.

I can see China boycotting Japanese products, it wouldn't be the first time they do that. Everyone else though I just don't see it, I do know there is a strong hatred for Japanese in China but I doubt the rest of the world will boycott Japanese products over this, seems very unlikely. People will probably not buy Japanese seafood for a year or two though.

You could if you'd wanted to. I don't think many people would share that interpretation though.

if we're lucky we will get mutant giant shrimp, at least 20KG can feed a whole village!

You think Japan has enough money to bribe ALL western news media? There are millions of them, hardly likely. It's big news in Asia because it's happening next to them, it's far away from the west that's why there is little interest.

Yeah, or you could just let it out in the ocean which the IAEA, the nuclear watch dog has said is safe. But yeah let's not listen to the experts and just take some random internet advice instead lol.

@tianqiyu7746 Which countries would that be? I know China is one but the others...? Even the Korean government said it's okay and they are just next to Japan. I do realize there are worried people in a lot of countries but apart from the Chinese government no other government bodies made such demands.

That's not how the world works, there are many nations not one nation ruling all.
1
It's safe diluted, that's why they put it into the ocean, it's not safe concentrated.
1
Nah, the Japanese are good people, they like to share with their neighbours. Everybody loves a good neighbour.

Dude, trying to live in a planet will always be a hopeless task.

Why? The IAEA said it's okay, Is it the US responsibility to second guess every single decision experts make? I remember when the president said he didn't believe the WHO about where COVID came from god that turned into a s*** show and people accusing the US not believing the science, now suddenly science is wrong and we need to question it? It's up to you what you want to believe, I trust the IAEA enough to not get worried, might stay away from eating too much Japanese sea food but I do respect people are worried, they have every right to be.

@williamthelesser I think I read the Fukushima release was 24 not 22 (maybe I was mistaken) but yes, it's very safe and this is not big news just some countries made a lot of noise about it. I think it's a big thing in China, Korea and maybe Japan.
