@dolamike584 You are not getting the point, the CCP government changed the policy and yet people are still not getting more kids, he is trying to argue why that is. I personally believe he is right, getting rid of the one child policy will not be enough. Everything in China is very cheap compared to the western world, everything... EXCEPT kids. A typical Chinese family will be one kid, one father, one mother, two grandmothers and two grandfathers. These 6 people will usually ALL contribute to the kids education ALL of them, you have 6 people funding one kid.
Quality education in China is very expensive not to mention that when the kids are done in school they will go to private institutions for lessons like dancing, piano, maths, English, Art.... when 6 people come together just to fund one kid you can imagine how hard it is for them to have multiple kids. Chinese parents usually hold off on kids unless they can provide good education for them, it's far better for them to "invest" quality education in one child to become successful than it is to get 3 kids and let all of them have sub-par education and getting factory jobs.
You can't look at China with a western lens you need to understand that for the Chinese getting married and having a kid is your life's duty your parents will be on your ass everyday if you are above 30 and not married and getting kids. Getting married is not always about love and wanting to have a kid together it's mandatory over there - it's part of the culture. It's not emotionally based always a lot of times it's carefully calculated as to provide as best of a future economic advantage as possible - it's an investment that kid is going to be your "retirement fund" in the future.
And that's not even mentioning that if they have a son they need to buy an apartment for their son if he is to get married, imagine having 3 sons on an average paying job - good luck getting those 3 apartments and quality education.
