  1. In Rhode Island they use a mark-sense system. You use a marker to complete lines toward your choice on the ballot. Then when done feed it into the scanner. Be sure the count updates and you're on your way. Really simple and fairly secure. Oh and I remember HAVA - I was at the RI Sec of State's office when the first round came out - it allowed us to move the elections, corporations and I.T. divisions to a new facility and setup a redundant Central Voter Registration System. From having servers in a back closet to a full up server room with redundant power was fun to plan too.
