Of course now we have ROT-13, MD5 and other cyphers. My favorites are the Ceasarean Cipher and the VIgenere cypher which is more complex. One place I worked we used to have encryption contests and Vigenere cypher unless you knew the key couldn't be broken easily. And 'invisible' inks well make sure the underlying text is encrypted.
