Irrawaddy is even so far away from where champa was. champa was never in yunnan and only right next to cambodia in today's south central vietnam. they did not go to borneo, they came from borneo, just like the many lowland philippine austronesian groups. if some went to borneo later on, it's only a few, just like the few that went to hainan island and many other places. and vietnamese are not originally chinese, they're austroasiatic and only some vietnamese are descendants of chinese migrants that assimilated to vietnamese kinh culture, just like the chinese migrants that assimilated to life in the philippines, malaysia, indonesia, thailand, myanmar, cambodia, laos, timor, etc.

@ariapinandita9240 the people from indochina peninsula you're referring to that migrated to peninsular malaya to sumatra and java are those austroasiatic groups like the orang asli. it's not the austronesians who came from indochina peninsula. malays in malaya, sumatra, etc. and other austronesian groups around there simply moved there later on and some intermixed with groups like the orang asli

@ariapinandita9240 the history book you read is outdated since its still following the theory that austronesian groups came from indochina peninsula. they based it on that because they found very very old ancient inscriptions and ruins by champa kingdom in indochina, but the dominant theory these past decades is the out of taiwan theory supported by newly found artifacts, digsites and linguistic research in taiwan, southeastern china, philippines and etc. the reason why champa has those ruins and inscriptions dating very far back in time is because the austronesian migration from southeastern china and taiwan was even older and the chams adopted the brahmic writing system and hindu religion of those in indochina peninsula so they wrote their inscriptions on stone and made all those hindu figures and artifacts, whereas the austronesian groups across maritime southeast asia that lived there in older times did not leave behind older artifacts that survive today because they wrote them on wood and wooden buildings that did not survive today. only later on when hinduism and buddhism came to maritime southeast asia when they started making big stone buildings and inscriptions. the story about jayavarman II coming from a place called "Java" is not referring to the island of Java in indonesia. it is just a khmer pronunciation of champa before. another romanization of the khmer script is "chvea"
