Peter Hitchens? You have got to be kidding. He's not "the Hitch", that would have been his brother.

Did she have any sort of treatments? Hormones? Operations? Or was she just being a troll, because, really, what she did was just silly and not important.

+talsapps I just looked up the transgender wrestler story and you have completely misrepresented it. It is a transgender female to male who wanted to wrestle boys but was forced to wrestle girls. The reason it was controversial is that they think the hormones will give "him" an advantage. So, because he was a girl on his birth certificate he was forced to wrestle girls when he wanted to wrestle boys--which would not have given him an advantage. Did you not know the story or did you purposely misrepresent it?
3
Would you want to officially change your sex? It won't be an issue for you because you're not transgender. Why does it matter to you if someone else officially changes their sex?
2
How are you being forced to do anything? You can't be arrested for refusing to accept that someone is transgender.
2
What does that have to do with whether someone can legally change their gender? He had the right to do that and the other girls have the right to protest this if they want to.
2
There are stalls in bathrooms. As far as locker rooms go most transgender people are in more danger than non-transgender people.
2
Has that bill actually passed? I'm having trouble finding any actual information on it because of all the hysterical right wing blogs.
2
Do you really think that we will ever live in a world where female sports will be dominated by transgenders? Also, in wrestling they have weight classes so the transgender wrestler would be competing against athletes of a similar size.
2
A lawyer who was so important you can't even come up with her name. Considering the way you completely misrepresented the story about the wrestler I don't have great confidence in your abilities to present facts. And I read these articles on several Canadian news sites. None of the people posting on this seem to be able to come up with any examples of anyone being prosecuted under this law who had to pay a fine or do jail time for calling someone by the wrong pronoun. Until you can come up with even one example I don't see the need to continue rewarding your lack of research ability.
2
Have people actually been fined? I can't find any unbiased sources on this. From what I could find in the actual Canadian government documents the bill hasn't even passed yet.
2
A debate is not actually proof and from what I've read Jordan Peterson has misrepresented the law all along. I've now had people tell me that it has passed and people have been fined but I have been unable to find any non-right wing source for any of this. If what people are saying is true then it's a horrible law but from what I've read of the law it doesn't do what people are saying. I know Canada has different law than the US but I haven't been able to find any confirmation that this law jails or fines people for not using the right pronouns.
2
Do you mean that a male to female athlete would have an unfair advantage in women's sports? Kind of a narrow scope. Just saying "I don't see why they should be able to do this" isn't an argument.
2
+talsapps I don't know. The fact that someone's a lawyer doesn't automatically make them right or honest. Also, considering how you misrepresented the other story I'm a little skeptical of your grasp of what's happening.
2
+RanEncounter I asked for a single example of a case where someone was FINED OR JAILED and you still haven't provided this. If you can't I understand. You don't want to admit it because that would fuck with your narrative. But until you can I don't really care to hear anymore of your whiny bullshit. This does not force you to do anything at all. Most likely transgender people avoid you so you never have to refer to them in any way.
2
+RanEncounter I have done several searches and not come up with anything. Why don't you tell me the names of the specific cases or the plaintiffs so I can find them. Keep in mind, I only want cases where someone was fined or jailed for calling someone by the wrong pronoun.
2
+RanEcnounter Can you point to a case where someone was fined or jailed for using the wrong pronoun? Again, I don't care if people sue. People have the right to sue if they think they have a case. Has anyone been fined or jailed for using the wrong pronoun?
2
+talsapps I already read that. Where in the law does it fine or jail people for using the "wrong" pronouns.
1
And I did read it and still say "so what"?
1
Again, people can sue if they think they have a case. The decision seems to be that the applicant didn't respond and so has to respond by the 16th. I'm not sure why this raises red flags. That a case has been filed is not controversial. So what? People sue all the time for any reason. I don't care that people file these suits, has anyone been fined or jailed for not calling someone by a certain pronoun? I have done several searches and the only things that come up are rightwing websites that don't offer any actual incidents.
1
The human rights tribunal seems to be a government entity. I'm not sure what your objection is. Do you think people should not be able to sue if they feel their rights have been abused?
1
These links aren't working.
1
There was no link. I cut and pasted the one further down and it said the link didn't exist.
1
+talsapps So, you believe that certain people should not be allowed to sue. Got it. You do need a conclusion because if the case is thrown out or found for the defendant then it shows that it is not true that you can be fined or jailed for something.
1
+talsapps If the law doesn't prohibit him from doing so then he didn't have to do it. The whole point is that the government has to be behind it and that the government punishes him for not doing it. The conclusion is the only important thing. I'm not moving the goal post that a lawyer said it in some debate and wasn't corrected isn't proof. If you can't find a place where someone was legally punished for doing something you are pretty much whining about something that doesn't exist.
1
No, I'm not moving the goal posts. My point has always been the same. You are not being forced to do anything.
1
+talsapps Several of the articles I read said that the law does not do what you say. Some debate you saw with some lawyer you don't know is not proof of anything.
1
And you still haven't shown you can be fined or jailed for it. If there is no legal repercussion it is a matter of choice. You can say whatever you want, what you can't do is control how people react toward you. That's life. You don't have the right to have all your opinions respected by everyone else. Sorry, that's how life is Snowflake.
1
RanEncounter It was hard to find what that law actually says because of all the right wing websites with their misinformation but it seems that while it adds transgender people to protected status and the hate speech laws (which I disagree with) it does not do what you say it does.
1
You think there's a problem recommending mediation?
1
I get the feeling the last point influences the first opinion because I don't hear any great reasoning in this video.
1
+BenBistro004 Your sentence made no sense at all.
1
What does it mean to be a "most genuine" journalist?
1
I don't think debating is necessarily a part of being a journalist. If she is claiming to be objective or impartial she wouldn't actually be taking a side on any issues. In this very video she is neither objective or impartial. Would she have not published the video had the public figure not been her friend?
1
Thank you for telling me what I "should" do. Now, why don't you address my objections.
1
Judging by what she says in this interview I don't find her to be mature. She makes many claims saying that "people say this" or states that things are facts that aren't so. In that way she's rather like Milo who, on Real Time said that transgender people are involved in sex crimes at a high rate but didn't bother to mention that they are the victims and not the perpetrators.
1
I don't know her well enough to really judge. I'm just going by what I saw on this video--which, I have to say, as much as I like Dave he doesn't really follow up questions so it's sometimes hard to say.
1
I don't really know her. Is she considered to be good at whatever it is she does?
