Slovakia is likely Hungary's new autocratic partner.

Why is Hungary allowed to stay in the EU?
188
@Geny Because Orban ignores EU law, and because Hungary has removed EU requirements like Rule of Law, an independent judiciary, and a free press.
132
@Geny The UK left, and Poland voted in pro-democracy candidates who reverse Poland's democratic backsliding. Hungary should follow their example.

@choleraphd7702 You are right. The Union isn't a playground. The EU is a confederation that Hungary chose to join by signing a treaty, and part of that agreement was that all members to have free and fair elections, an independent judiciary, free press, and rule of law. Orban has broken the agreement over and over, so Hungary should be expelled for treaty violations.

@TheIrishLad06 His next example will be Russia

@sliftyy Ukraine still needs to reform. That is why they have a roadmap to join instead the EU instead of just immediately joining. The same process Hungary went through. Unfortunately, Orban is backtracking his country into a corrupt oligarchy like Putin has in Russia.
37
@hehehehaw2915 BS. Ukraine already gave Hungarians the right to teach in Hungarian. Orban is just trying to appease his master in Russia.
19
@mftmss7086 Zelenskyy has been nothing but grateful to the US. Personally, I find his comments about Putin's Trojan Horses in the Republican party to be overly restrained.
18
A super majority system is preferable. It will still prevent the majority from forcing their will while preventing leaders who represent 2% of the EU's population from being obstructionist.
15
@hehehehaw2915 Hungary being allowed to be Putin's Trojan Horse in the EU is already making the bloc a laughing stock.
11
Putin's Trojan Horse

@peterbalogh8138 You misspelled "Orban." Orban is doing Orban's bidding. He is trying to form an autocratic bloc in the EU so no one can stop him from consolidating money and power. He could care less about Hungarians.
4
@csat1078 The EU is a confederation by every definition.
3
@nick90000 Seems like a good reason to reform
3
I think they have made the video already.
2
Hungarians are arguing that they are currently on the right side of history. I would argue they have never been on the fight side of history.
2
Cut EU funds to antidemocraric members and place visa requirements on their citizens. They can't collect EU benefits while ignoring all its principles and laws.
2
@csat1078 What facts are you disputing? Please save me from my "ignorance."
2
@98LPM Obviously, you don't know what a coalition is. Try reading a book once in awhile.
2
@KilmerTrotter If a nation continues to break their treaty obligations, then why should the other side agree to hold up their half of the deal. Orban ignores EU laws and values, so why should members continue to send money to Hungary and give them veto rights to EU policy?
2
Look at a map
1
Orban and American Republicans are trying to form a pro-Putin Western bloc.
1
Hungary is a dump. When talking about poor, backward Europeans, Hungary, and Russia always fit the stereotype.
1
@Tovalokodonc I'm unsurprised that you are a fan of the axis alliance
1
@sliftyy Turkey got a roadmap, but they backtracked on economic and democratic reforms. Should the EU really let in a country that locks up people for criticizing the president and where the state works to help fund Iran's nuclear program? Putin doesn't want to reform or join the EU. He prefers that a political bloc where Russia makes all the decisions and everyone else follows.
1
@imresebok1140 Your illiteracy is impressive
1
@juditmogyorosi2438 Hungary said during WW2 too and looked how that turned out. Somethings never change.
1
@devanman7920 The difference is that Ukraine is reforming into EU standards while Hungary is backtracking to Putin standards.
