@TisDana You are right. Poverty in sub -Sahara Africa and downtown Los Angeles are exactly the same. The American poor also don't have access to clean water, free phones, free food, free healthcare, and direct cash payments from the government. 🙄

Africa poverty struggles to find enough food. Meanwhile, the majority of America food stamp recipients are overweight or obese.

@Mighty_Atheismo Is 32 a boomer? I worked at a grocery store to put myself through college. People who use SNAP always had money for cigarettes, alcohol, and lottery tickets. It also seemed like they all had nicer smart phones than me, and they all arrived to the store in a car. What Americans call "poor" is just below the medium income.

@throckwoddle Now everyone is entitled to a new, expensive car? Not every poor person is an addict. Thanks to government assistance, which is removed from poverty measurements, the poor have access to disposable income.

@reasonablespeculation3893 It is household income, so two America adults are compared to multi-generational African households.

@reasonablespeculation3893 $94,800 is household income, so that typically means there are two adults bringing in an income. Deadbeat dads have resulted in single moms being the largest demographic of those requiring government help. Also, the "BS" number is from the Department of Labor and Statistics in 2022.

@throckwoddle You are completely missing my point. Poverty used to be a measure of how people's access food, shelter, and healthcare. Now, "poverty" is just a measure to how well off one is relative to everyone else. Even if Mike's income doubles, if Mike's neighbors' income triples, then by liberal logic, Mike is now poorer.

@Mighty_Atheismo The median household income is $74,580, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

@reasonablespeculation3893 According to March 2022 exchange rates, the average monthly pay in Africa is around 758 USD (US dollar). This is roughly ten times lower than typical incomes in the United States and the United Kingdom, which are 7,900 USD and 7,795 USD, respectively.
