You could say that about Americans who work longer hours and take less vacation on average. Japan overwork is more myth than fact.

@karld1791 The States has the same issue. It has gotten to the point where adderall abuse is common to make up for the extra hours worked with less sleep.

Then why does the United States receive so much foreign investment?
2
@theburden9920 B.S. What about Germany, South Korea, Isreal, or the UK? These are all developed economies with sizable foreign investment, because there is still plenty of growth opportunities, and investment risk is reduced due to poltical stability and rule of law. Japan's only obstacle from receiving the same investments is xenophobic policies.

@theburden9920 They don't invest in America, because it is a reserve currency. The reserve currency's only benefit to the economy is that it increases purchasing power and it allows government caused inflation to be shared globally. This is not a guarantee of growth (just look at the Carter administration). Foreigners like to invest in America, because our stocks are transparent and high performing. The value of having a reserve currency has been exaggerated by politicians who want create huge deficits while lying that it will not a have a negative effect on the economy.

@Akhen. Your justification for Japan to ignore the success of the US and China is "it is just itself". That is nonsense. What if you applied that idea to other countries that want to follow their own nonsensical economic policies like Turkey, Venezuela, or North Korea?
2
Venezuela is also trying to be itself. That is hardly justification for poor economic policy.

@Akhen. Venezuela is the victim of CIA meddling? B.S. Iran, an actual victim of CIA meddling and who has a smaller oil reserve, doesn't have food and toilet paper shortages like Venezuela does. Venezuela's problems are to blame on socialism. Turkey's driving down the value of their currency isn't that different from Abeanomics of Japan. I did use extreme examples. How about you look at stagnation of Spain who has inflexibility of hiring and firing of Japan. Or how about the stagnation of Argentina caused by extreme protectionism? Are they just trying to be themselves?

Japan needs to change their laws and culture to fire unproductive workers.
