  1. The idea that Russia needs to take Ukraine to protect their territory from Europe is ridiculous. As long as Russia has nukes, they don't have to worry about a war of aggression against Russia.

  2.  @maestro6458  The US/UK only got involved with Ukraine after Russian aggression in 2014. Before that. Ukraine's main western ties were economic ties with the EU. Putin didn't like Ukraine's economic ties with the EU, because Russia's corrupt oligarch economy can't compete with the EU's competitive free market.
