@alexj7440 Downfall? That is weird I thought the Soviet Union was the one to collapse and left America as the world's only superpower.

Yet Reagan was widely popular.

@jamesxlennon Side effects of winning the cold war. An unstable middle east is safer that a nuclear Soviet Union.

@alexj7440 In the US, they were going up when Obama left office.

@internetual7350 The world has never been closer to nuclear winter than when the Soviet Union was around.

@internetual7350 I don't why you think the Soviet Union was "responsible". It was highly unstable with revolutions, coups, purges, and a collapse of the whole system.

@tommyfred6180 China hasn't been to war since Vietnam. All they care about is money and war is unprofitable. Iran is a joke when it comes to a military threat -- especially compared to the Soviet Union.

I want to know what happened in his life that made his sniff women.
2
@internetual7350 Not man made? The government took ownership of all the farms and then exported the food for sale as the farmers starved. That is not an act of God. How can you call something an opposition when by law they are required to agree with the Communist Party? Plus, almost every election had one candidate. That wasn't because 100% of people agreed the communists were the best choice.

wolf tone Who cares? Iran-Contra is a unwashable stain on his legacy, but his involvement in rooting out Soviet sympathisers in Hollywood is so trivial that it is barely worth taking about. In fact, what he did isn't any different from Hollywood executives blacklisting conservative actors today.

@nataliekhanyola5669 "In Gallup's most recent measure of favorability about Reagan, taken in January 2001, 74% of Americans had a favorable opinion of him, and only 23% were unfavorable." I'm having difficulty finding a poll more recent than 2001, but Reagan is still widely popular today unlike the iron lady.

@tommyfred6180 You can pretend that Iran is a superpower all you want, but the fact is that there has never been so few deaths as a result of war in world history since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

@coldcoffee1506 Reagan left the White House with a job approval rating of 63 percent, support that many politicians can only dream of. Only 29 percent disapproved of Reagan's work. Among Republicans, Reagan enjoyed a 93 percent approval rating.

I always assumed people didn't like Reagan, because of his legacy of small government and conservative values is still a hurdle liberals can't get past. Little did I know, a bunch of ya'll preferred to have the Soviet Union around to support your socialist beliefs.
1
@internetual7350 How can you speak out against genocide, murder, and the persecution of ethnic minorities AND claim there is no such thing as an "Uncivilized" society? You defined Reagan's critism to the Soviet Union -- the country that made Ukraine starve, murdered the opposition, and exiled the Tatars from their home.
1
wolf tone Literally no one cares about Reagan's time as a union leader. It would be weird to ignore everything else he has done and then hate the man for rooting out communist in Hollywood. Plus, he pushed back when McCarthy took things too far.

@myoctobersymphony4446 "Popular" was probably poor word choice. Reagan is "less polarizing" than the iron lady. Of the people who didn't like her, they truly hated her. Reagan wasn't that divisive by comparison.
1
wolf tone They were only outed as communist. No one was even arrested.
1
wolf tone Why do we call out and shame racist and sexist today?
1
wolf tone You obviously missed the point. American society rooted out and osterized communist in the 1950s in same way we attack people with racist beliefs today.

@elizabethcsicsery-ronay1633 Biden's approval rating is 46% which is dismal if you consider all that debt-filled, inflation-causing vote buying he did like a Venezuela populist. He literally gave people "free" money and half the country still doesn't like him.
