Who gets to decide what the truth is, and how can we trust the Republicans or Democrats in charge to not use it to silence the opinions of their opponents?

@boatnikdog Who decides the facts? Can you trust the government to be the one to decide what is true? What will stop government from starting a war and saying the "fact" is that it is only a "special operation". Under the proposed law, the government can go after anyone "lying" about it being a war instead of a special operation.

@boatnikdog I'm not saying the truth isn't important. My point is that the government should have very few limits on their ability to regulate speech, because it could easily be abused by unethical leadership.

@chipchiperson679 Who is the government censoring? Who received terrorist charges for speaking their opinions? Your statements are based on what you feel is true, unverified rumors you saw on fb, or from your lying ex president. Find an actual example or shut up.

@boatnikdog I wouldn't trust Trump or Biden with that kind of power. It amazes me that anyone would.

@boatnikdog I don't think lying should be a criminal offense. It should remain a civil matter where juries decide the guilt of slander or label. Citizens and media should do the best they can to debunk misinformation and voters should punish untrustworthy politicians.
