  1. You got the timeline wrong. Hillary said that when Assad was targeting civilians with barrel bombs. Russia then joined the airwar to prevent a UN no fly zone over Northern Syria, so Assad could continue to target schools and hospitals.

Putin preemptive the US by establishing itself in the airspace, so the US would have to be the aggressor to establish the no fly zone. I don't like the Clintons, but she was talking about defending against Russian aggression and not to be the aggressor against Russia. Once Russia entered first, her point was moot. On a side note, Russia deserved to be shot down for entering Turkey's airspace.
