Russia now doesn't have the capability to survive a drop in oil prices. Its other industries are in decline, and the current budget deficit doesn't give any wiggle room.

When the Russian people can't import any goods, then the high value currency doesn't really have any benefit.

@J_Madison Russian imports are down almost 30% due sanctions cutting Russia off from many markets including many Chinese and Indian companies who voluntarily pulled out of the small Russian market instead of risking being blocked from doing business with much bigger markets.

@J_Madison If Russia is doing so well economically, then why did the government stop making economic data public? If things are as great as you claim, then what are they hiding?

@J_Madison Russia should be swimming in cash right now that oil prices are being driven up by a post covid boom. Instead, Russia is just hanging on and in a perilous position as the next oil bust will send the country into an economic spiral without a diversified economy or budget surplus to keep the country afloat. You are also on crack to think there is an axis alliance between Russia, China, and India. Ignoring that China and India are in a regional cold war, neither country seems willing to help Russia. They both have refused to send arms to Russia, and they are taking advantage of Russia by demanding a 30% discount on oil and gas instead of paying the market rate. Lastly, Russian is only the second best military in Ukraine.
