You are misunderstanding what he said. Trump's defense isn't ignorance of the law. The defense is that Trump is so dumb and gullible that he was convinced by the likes of his drunk lawyer and the MyPillow guy that the election fraud claims are true. As long as Trump believes the lies himself, he can't be guilty of fraud as the law requires prosecutors to prove the defendent knowingly lied for personal gain.

It isn't ignorance of the law that is defense. Fraud requires the prosecutors to prove that the accused knowingly lied. That means Trump's lawyers only has to convince 1 out of 12 jury members that Trump is dumb and gullible enough to believe the conspiracy theories he reads on Twitter and therfore Trump wasn't lying.

Your metaphor is dumb. Intention isn't written into the law for DWI cases, while laws for fraud require prosecutors to prove the accused knowingly lied.

@DearCult45cultist If you listen to Trump's whole call with Raffensperger, then it actually sounds like Trump is an unhinged narcissist who truly believes there was no way he could have lost to Biden. The call also opens Trump up to prosecution for crimes other than fraud.

@capitalb5889 His defense lawyer would only have to convince one jury member that Trump has lost grip on reality. Based on Trump's personality disorders, I don't think the task would be that difficult for the defense.
