What about the due process part of the 14th Amendment? It would be different if Trump was convicted by a jury of his peers. Elected officials shouldn't be making these decisions.

@richinoable I'm not a fan of Trump at all. I just don't think elected state officials should be deciding who is and isn't allowed to run without due process. Should Texas' MAGA Attorney General have the power to take Biden off the ballot based on what "they believe" is an attack against America?

@richinoable Put down your crack pipe.

@shawngarza8399 No. It is one judge agreeing with one state official of a rival party. There is no jury of his peers convicting him beyond a reasonable doubt.

@shawngarza8399 The elected official and judge are sentencing a punishment for a crime someone wasn't convicted for. How is that not government overreach?

@paulherring8959 The judge and possibly the Supreme Court are deciding whether it is constitutional for elected officials (Secretary of States) to prevent someone from running for office based on unproven allegations. (Legally, they are allegations until proven in court.) Saying these officials only have this power over non presidential races seems nonsensical.

@paulherring8959 None. That is how the system should work. If Trump or anyone else is convicted of insurrection or a similar statue, then they should be disqualified from running for public office. Everyone is entitled to due process - even those who don't respect the constitution like Trump. Ask yourself, do you want MAGA Secretary of States to have the power to disqualify Democrats or "RINOs" because there are allegations of treason?
