Thanks. That was very interesting. I knew that there had been fleet exercises but not that there had been that many - and the details were fascinating. It's probably not possible - but - a treatment of the exercises the Japanese, German and British Navies conducted would also be interesting. Then - extrapolating on that - could be a judgment as to how well each of the Navies involved understood what was really going to happen. As with everything from tanks and airplanes to logistics - what really happened was of little resemblance to what the participants had previously thought was going to happen. A point I have made elsewhere is that until they are actually trying to kill each other for real - they don't really know how all this stuff is really going to work. The thing here - is that regardless of how effective they would prove to be in the real world - the human beings running things were in fact trying to under stand what was coming. .

@georgehughes8698 Yeah and into the 2000's too. I would imagine that they are still doing it and will continue to do so. There's a lead up time of several years. They'll announce a future exercise - and then - anyone interested in having their technologies participate can request to be included. There's a lot of preparation and practice that goes on before the period of the actual exercise which might include participation by some in smaller or partial exercises. They'll have the exercise - and then there's a substantial review process that follows onto that, including judgments about the different technologies that participated. So - these things are still a really big deal. They don't always have cross service participation or - it might be on a greater level for some services than others. It just depends on what they want to do on a particular exercise. .
