Israel is more expensive than many of these places. There is a large gap between the median ($2,000) and average ($2,850) salaries, and while rent is bearable (less than $2,000/mo for a small apartment even in the most expensive cities, and closer to $1,000 on average), common goods cost more than most countries, often more than in Switzerland. A beer (0.5L) in a typical pub costs ~$10 (more than Oslo, Singapore, HK or NYC), simple toiletries like shaving cream etc.—as well as clothing in major chains like H&M—can cost double or triple the typical European price, and there are no reasonably widespread discount chains like Aldi, Primark, etc. Buying an apartment instead of renting is also unaffordable, costing over 150 salaries, compared to less than 100 in most places, and around 120-ish in expensive cities.
