  1. I rewatched and some of the pauses came across as accidental, giving the feeling that he was fumbling, and others felt more deliberate and more in line with what I was saying. I can agree with your comment now after rewatching.

  2. I don't find them awkward at all, though I can understand why some people do. Once you accustom yourself to a person not speaking in a constant stream, you find that pauses are a very effective element of speaking. They add emphasis and make the words sink in more because the listener contemplates what's been said in the gaps between speech. When you accept silences, you open yourself to the speaker and quieten the constant judgement of your mind as you listen.
