The badasses in the comments section? Waay tougher than Rousey. Remember folks, strength and toughness is not how you handle what's thrown at you (e.g. depression, self-destructive psychological anomalies) - it's just never having them thrown at you in the first place. Know someone who's had cancer and lived with the fucked up hardship? Well if you've been fortunate enough never to have cancer then you're stronger and tougher than them! And yes, 20% of readers who can't discern intent, this is bitter sarcasm.

Schowiest SleetĀ I do understand the thinking behind that term but yes it's definitely an unrealistic and largely ignorant take on suffering. The worst application of that adage is when it's used to justify the causing of suffering, like the abuser is doing a noble deed - this is why I absolutely hated songs like "Thank You" from a decade ago by an English singer talking about how her domestic abuse made her stronger. Maybe it did but there are plenty of people out there who will point to that and use thatĀ machiavellian perverse logic "I'm doing her a favour". This is commonly heard relating to child abuse. Not sexual abuse, our societ(ies) recognise the horror of sexual abuse but often glorify violent abuse (generally it's the violent sociopaths who claim it "didn't do me no harm"). Back to my initial point though, someone who's lived through depression without succumbing to self destructiveness can claim to be stronger (though I wouldn't personally) more than someone who's simply never experienced it. It's like going to work while ill is a better case for being tough than never missing work because you've never contracted an illness. These people have done nothing to not experience depression yet some think that this makes them strong - having done nothing makes them strong, they say.
