  1. dffykvn I agree, I think it runs into the "but I'm not a bad person" problem where almost nobody thinks of themselves as a 'bad person' because we're complex and our actions often don't definitively reflect our overall moral compass - at least not in our view. I always like to separate "am I racist" or worse, "am I a racist" from "is what I said racist" and "is what I think racist". Just like the parent who's violently abusive to their child might compare themselves to someone with fewer redeeming features, it's easy to envision "a racist" as "someone who can't get along with any [race] people" and say "I'm clearly not that". "I'm not racist" means next to nothing to me, it's what people think or say that indicates racist beliefs/perspectives.
