It's worth responding to point out that not everybody who finds children attractive actually has compulsions to have sex with them - there's an entire world of gradients with this just as with anything, the problem is that the general public know next to nothing about such people (knowing only news reports of convicted child rapists and assuming they represent the average child attracted adult) and so ignorance and fallacy run rife. You have those who do and struggle with it, those who have the desire but it's no less manageable than the desire to have sex with a celebrity you'll never meet, those who find children attractive and may even fantasise about sex but are completely put off by the idea of actually doing it (I entertain some BDSM fantasies relating to adults but I'd never want to actually do any of that - it's far more complex than 'think it, want it, do it'), and those who find them attractive in appearance but don't want to have sex with them at all (this would include me) because it's simply finding someone gorgeous looking, even sexy looking but not wanting that physical act or its real life effect on them. I'm ecstatic that we're finally getting past the idiotic 'blame them for how their brain works as though its their choice/decision' insanity but man I wish more people actually knew someone with the 'orientation' to dispel some widespread myths. It's especially enfuriating to be told you're wrong by someone who's never known a paedophile but is an expert in layman misinformation! (that's not you, btw)

  2. Good commentary from Dave and Ana here, glad they (Ana especially) got past their discomfort with the concept enough to see that if something can help then obviously it should be used. Also good to hear the acknowledgement that a person who experiences compulsions to have sex with children (which is not all paedophiles, this is a misconception that exists because so few people know anybody who finds children attractive and is open about it - all they know about is news stories of child rapists) and doesn't do anything with children is someone who should be helped and assisted by the society they're a part of - not blamed for their condition by an idiotic lynch mob who doesn't understand the concept of not choosing how your brain functions. So yes, good to hear. Wider society seems to have progressed considerably since even three years ago when I'd be targetted by the virtual lynch mob for not saying "kill all innocent non offending paedophiles!", now my sane position seems to be the standard position. A win for sanity.
