  21. I think this would be really useful for something like Google Earth. You could "walk" thru a street, a merket, or location, and ear, not only a melody from the place/country, but also the "urban" sounds that are there (people talking, sellers, cars, birds, dogs, etc).

  34. No. Payment is low. E.g.: Hollywood CG blockbusters pays minimum wage to graphic artists worldwide working on triple A movies. Studios open and close everytime and artists travel (sometimes) worldwide to get a job, same goes for musicians and sound design. Lead directors/composers in the industry can survive quite well, but the bolk of the work is still done by new/naive/underpayed staff. There is a Documentary about the studio that did "Life of Pi" (who won an Oscar, while the people that worked on it where protesting outside) but had to file for bankrunpcy.

I believe the real problem in 'merica is that they criminalized too many human behaviors (searching food, clothes, shelter, etc.) and do not do a good job at preventing such states (some even call it socialism, and fear it). This is, however, a really great tool for law & order. I sure hope they can implement it and expand it over the next years, or it is the young who will pay the price.

Also, the fact that it "will take good care and safely deal with any information you find that concerns my privacy", does not change the fact that you have already violated it... And even his idea: "Look at tha data"? You mean the one you've been keeping from everyone all these years... Show it to us! I believe the NSA and other such agencies are useful, and we can't just end them because of "bad managment". But man, they definitelly need to have better guidelines, or better PR.

  67. This is a great idea, and it has been tried before on other places with similar results. The problem, like she said, is that the people in power don't want to make decision on base on people's choice, but on their party/personal gain. Also, any site or internet platform can be hacked (has the NSA proved), so such an app can also be manipulated by big corporations to favor what they want done or not done. I believe this is the way to go, but we need to have a more profound change in the goverment system, and on how we choose the people inside that system, to make it work.

  81. The great thing for 3D printing (and some can even print colors too), for me, is the execution of models. Image the latest Transformers movie or Destiny videogame, you put the BluRay in your computer and it comes with a code/app to 3dprint your favorite robot, statue or action figure. Image someone doing a awesome model of a mecha, or a known actor, or even one of the classics of the great renaisance sculptures, puting it online and you can print it at home. No more packages, customs, out of stock, out of sale, lost in mail situations... The future is indeed great.

Since high-school to my adulthood I have follow this 'creed' this woman (and everyone) talks about... to "open up" and over the years I have only lost and lost. No one wants to be on the receiving end of that (or any such hard) conversation... now, I just follow the "status quo".

A second "family" that exist on the island doesn't seem to be affected. Also, the appearance of this cancer is rather peculiar because it started in human populated areas (were there are fewer animals) and then migrated to where there are the big colonies. -Saw it on Discovery Ch.

I don't need to look at the chair I'm sitting, or look at the street outside, or etc, to know it's there because my "model" tells me it's there. In that sense, all sential beeings have a model. More or less elaborate depending on how much senses the creature has (ex. animals have senses like us, were plant sense only temperature, gravity, sun-light,etc). This is a profound talk, but it need some pictures or infography, because it is to difficult to follow without visual aid.

If you were acused of a crime, or participation in one, or even just a road accident, them thru court aproval you would relinquish it to authorities for investigation. Other than that it, and the data in it, would be yours and yours alone. Similar things could be used in so many other things: IDs, cellphone metadata, google usage data, facebook, etc.

  117. I simpathise with what he said, but not with the solution. It looks to me like all this is going to create is another political party, and it will soon turn into another clog in the wheel. To me, the solution would be an all out "no vote". If on election day they add no votes. They would have no way to justify: parliament, senators, parties, goverment (as is) all together. All that, would just be big white buildings with nothing in them. Buildings that belong to the people. And it forced them to reform into a system that would really serve us, instead of serving themselves. I know this is (probably) impossible, and many believe we would have anarqy...but, when all else fails why not try the less obvious. If we have the power to strike (and not work) when we are unsatisfied with our empoyer/company, why not use the same power (no vote) when we are unsatisfied with our goverment?

  146. It's a real cool project, that I believe will benefit us greatly. However, we must take into account the political and economic repurcusions of this... The NSA already 'ears' everything in the world, and now someone's gonna be able to 'see' as well? Maybe some countries won't like to have all these 'eyes' on them, maybe they/we could use these eyes to spy on how much oil, merchandise, exports/imports on ships, trafic on airports, cars on a certain road, trucks on a specific factory, people at a stadium, etc... This technology is amazing, but it is also a two edge sword, and we need to be careful, and responsable, how we use it.

What we need is more rating agencies. Because, when I buy a videogame, I don't just read "Playstation Magazine" and have my opinion made.   170. "We have labor shortage"? No we don't. Unemployment is high as it never was. These ideas are not new. The idea of a "city" for refuges is however impratical. A permanent settlement becomes autonomous (not exactly a bad thing) but if it creates business why should they go back once the conflict is resolved? And what authority would rule these setlements? Even now there are locations in europe where the ruling country does not enter and does not exercise law in it. Also, most refuges don't want to give their fingerprints or photo just to be registered for circulation in europe, so I don't believe a "visa" would solve anything. In 1942 there wasn't the threat of terrorrist that there is now, and that changes everything. I believe that there should be given oportunities, education, jobs/ocupation, but ending the cause for refuges is much more important: overpopulation, climate change, lack of food, lack of water, civil war, even lack/censor of internet... That is what needs solution.

And, in my school, I was the only one who had ever flown on a plane or visited a neighbouring countries. Nowadays, to be fair we still have Terrorism (now from Middle East extremism) and the refugee crisis, BUT we can go anywhere in Europe and pay with the same money and speak in a common tongue, all my friends have traveled Europe and many work and live abroad...   356. Actually, there was a small russian girl that could diagnost any medical condition. She did the trial and out of 5 (I think) people she guessed them all. Unfortunatelly, only two conditions she said matched the right person. The other conditions where mixed between the other three. So thay said that statisticly it was chance. However, she had never meet those persons, they were all in the same room and she DID explicity say what were the conditions she felt/detectec... I, for one, think more tests were required.

We all play videogames and learn everything about it all the time (names, places, itens, heroes, vilains - and they are all in English) why not expand on it? Some english youth play japanese games and learn to speak it and recognize the writing. Even if your 'googling' for answers, you are still learning something. And the experience of trial-and-error teaches you much more than any textbook can. Schools are not obsolete, but outdated - time for a change.

If you scroll down the comments of most videos, you can find a lot of antagonism (words like "idiot" or "stupid" or worse are not uncomon) 2 - Not all ideas are good. It's a big problem that public education, doesn't teach that and worse if there are corporations making money selling junk food, and other selling drugs to balance that out. You don't need doctors for this, volunters help, but in the end you need to inform the people.

  633. This is scary..."Personalization" and "censorship" are really getting to close for confort. One way I use to get different/more results is (I almost always use google, but) I use a different browser, like yahoo, so that the 'algorithm' has so little hits, that gives a much more wider search results.

If there something history has tells us we are ALWAYS better than we were (unless of course someone wants to go back to the ages without wi-fi, internet, electricity, toilets, etc). Machines will get better and be better than us because: 1) that is what WE want. 2) they ALREADY are (unless you wanna do complex mathmatics in a choalckboard). Now, thanks to the advance in medicine, parents have the choice to 'change' the fetus to the typical norm (male or female, etc), if they want to, in order (maybe not so much to be healthy, but) to be 'socially-healthy' or accepted - to get education, get a job, find a mate, etc. ... and usually it's the mother that decides.

I think for it to have a strong foot-hold, you gotta have some kind of geographic advantage (military or economic) or resource.
