She didn't explain that most of the Tazmanian Devils share a recent common ancestor (like a grand-grand father...) so their genetics are "familiar" to one another, and THAT is also a reason why it's spreading so fast. A second "family" that exist on the island doesn't seem to be affected. Also, the appearance of this cancer is rather peculiar because it started in human populated areas (were there are fewer animals) and then migrated to where there are the big colonies. -Saw it on Discovery Ch.
