@philipem1000 Yes, and Putin's invasion in 2014 and occupation of Crimea created no obligation for the signers to do jack, and so they didn't. Now we reap the bitter fruit of that inaction. Perhaps we can sign another pointless treaty to give Russia a rest before they resume the war in a few years?

The United States might have been up front about the HIMARS being programmed only for short-range missiles. Playing coy and possibly bluffing then getting busted by the American press looks weak. Or maybe Putin was secretly informed to put him at ease, like blurting out "no boots on the ground" without being asked?

Trump insisted that countries like Germany pay their fair share for NATO as the agreed upon percentage of GDP. Of course, the original phase of Putin's genocide in Ukraine began in 2014. The western alliance achieved something very important: They ignored it, encouraging Putin to take the next bite, a very precarious situation indeed.

@Ian-of9oi This is another wakeup call for the sleeping Russian people. They don't want to think about what their country is doing to Ukraine. There's a great documentary about the gradual effect of WWII on the German people. In the beginning they were unconcerned and having fun.

Macon needs to be humiliated. He still doesn't get that this isn't a political game like he plays. Russia is not an honorable actor and the "negotiating table" would be a slab for Ukraine. Maybe Macron could head the Putin-friendly new Vichy government?
