  2. The Saudis can and have driven down the price of oil when they put the squeeze on American fracking. It worked for a while. American producers respond to the price and drill when oil is around $70. They aren't going to drill at a lower price just to make Trump happy. But the U.S. continuing to patrol the sea lanes for free might make the Saudis grateful enough to open the taps and American producers be danged. It's transactional.
