@markgoldman7683 this happens very rarely, but sometimes in the third trimester, a doctor finds in an ultrasound that the fetus isn't viable. Sometimes major organs are missing. But as I said, very rarely. Still a medical procedure between a woman and her doctor.

@danaecarriere8212 no ethical doctor does abortions at 30 weeks unless there are rare medical issues with the mom or fetus. 95% of abortions happen in the first trimester. A fetus' nervous system isn't developed fully to survive outside of the mother's body until after about 26 weeks. Even then the premie will be in NICU w respiratory problems, as the lungs aren't fully developed.

@DirtyRedMuzik statistically it's extremely rare. If anything ever since Roe was overturned OB/GYNs are scared (in certain states) to take life-saving care of the pregnant woman (or girl). Women who need a procedure to remove the fetus remains during a miscarriage, are now being made to wait til the women are septic. Government has no place in these extremely personal medical decisions. Doctors and patients should be the ones deciding.
