When my father was in the Royal Sussex Regiment he was also issued with an American weapon, a Thompson SMG! (Complete with drum magazine). He never got to fire it but it looked impressive when guarding POWs.

@misterbig9025 - Mainly Italians (captured in North Africa), with whom he got on very well and found them friendly and happy to be out of the war. On occasion he guarded Germans whom he said he found surly, arrogant and felt he couldn’t trust them.

@Deadplayers-yb7xw - I can assure you when my father was issued his Thompson in 1942 it most certainly DID have a drum mag. It also had the vertical foregrip as they were old ‘cast-offs’ sent by the yanks to the British for use by 2nd-Line troops. Incidentally you can see the exact same weapon configuration used by Pte Pike in some episodes of Dad’s Army, most notably the episode ‘The Germans’. (The featuring the immortal ‘Don’t tell him Pike!’ Line). That was indeed what sparked my late father’s memory of the weapon. There are MANY photos (and video footage) of British troops with the round-mag Thompson. (There is even a famous photo of Winston Churchill holding said weapon). I do NOT lie and suggest you check military history before making erroneous statements and false accusations. And by the way, I have absolutely NO IDEA what an ‘LA8’ is, and cannot find any reference to such a WW2 weapon. I suggest you’re making it up.

@davewebster5120 - Thank you very much for your kind comments. A stark contrast to the commenter who accused me of lying. My father passed away in 1998 and yes, I am VERY proud of him and the service he gave. 🇬🇧🤝🇺🇸

‘Hole’ army. 😆 Sappers? Pioneer Corps?

@jezzeyy - No he doesn’t because he never existed, a silly myth based on the Roman god Mithras. And besides, even if he did, I’m not gay, so he’d have to find another boyfriend.
1
@jezzeyy - Oh so he’s YOUR boyfriend! Apologies. (But As I said, I’m not a homosexual). No, Jesus NOT my father either because Jesus never existed. I studied history and classicism, specialising in the late roman period, and can absolutely assure you that the early Christian cult is most DEFINITELY based on Mithras, with adoption of the pagan spring and winter solstice festivals dovetailed-in to represent the fictitious ‘Christ’s birth and zombie resurrection, in fact I wrote a non-published dissertation on that very subject whilst at Cambridge, so I like to think I know what I’m talking about when it comes to ancient cultish myths.

@jezzeyy - Why post controversial completely off-topic comments? Against YouTube rules and you’ll bound to get burned. Perhaps you could suggest some videos discussing religious topics in which I could post some off-topic comments about machine guns?
1
@jezzeyy - I don’t, because you can’t hate something invented by man that doesn’t exist (nor has ever existed). What I hate is religion (all of them). Pure evil mind poison responsible for more human suffering than anything else. I am a lifelong member of The British Secular Society, which campaigns against religious brainwashing and will continue to militantly rail against and denigrate religion at every possible opportunity. Please try to follow YouTube rules and only make comments that are relevant to the topic of the video.

@jezzeyy - I’ve read it. Possibly the worst example of children’s fiction I’ve ever read. Harry Potter is FAR superior.

@jezzeyy No, my father WAS in the Royal Sussex Regiment and WAS issued with a a Thompson. are you saying you knew him better than me? And what’s with the 💀? This is commonly seen as a death threat, so I have reported you to YouTube for harassment, bullying and making threats. Now go away and let the adults discuss the video topic.

@miltonlivramento4810 - No thank you I’ve already eaten.

@miltonlivramento4810 - Please explain what your posting of a meaningless symbol by way of reply to my comment about my late father’s gun has to do with the subject of the video, bearing in mind YouTube’s rules about keeping comments on-topic. I look forward to reading your detailed explanation.
