Heck, one of their 5/6 demands is to retract the rioter term and RELEASE everyone who has been arrested in the riots. Let that just sink it for a moment.

@rohitpillai4935 Because they aren't satisfied with what they have. It's a very simple win-win situation. Protestors get their "freedom" (and more), and the government gets rid of their rioter problem.

@mr.maximilian7721 Hong Kong is allowed to protests? If they weren't, why are they out here now? Or in 2019? Or in 2014? Or in 2005? Or literally anytime they protested? Freedom of speech? They disgraced the government emblem, burnt national flags, chant their hate speech/slogans, harassed the families of police officers online, hold their own press conferences. I could go on and on if you want. Too much freedom I should say.

Can "the world" please offer asylum to the citizens of Hong Kong? Take them all of you'd like.

@powah3 How is it not the same thing?

@Corey H Nope. There's no saving them. Let Britain, Uncle Sam, or Taiwan take them.

It's all fun and games until the kid getting bullied brings his dad's AR to school.

How is this an example? By article 23 in the basic law, HK was SUPPOSED to have a national security law back in 97. They shelved it because of protests in 2005.
1
@lukef1131 The HK Gov is the one passing the law (even if it is Beijing puppeteering it, still legal). No, the HK people don't have that right. That's a breach in the Basic Law and by extension 1 country 2 systems.
1
@lukef1131 I'm sorry, but what basic right are you referring to? There are like 7 or 8 of them. Technically, it is still the SAR that has executive power. It's a loophole, but what can anybody do about it? I have no stance on this. Call them scumbags, but it's legal. Bring it up with the UK for agreeing with such an unfair Basic Law, I don't know.
1
@lukef1131 Are you just going to ignore the protests, press conferences, LegCo meetings, and media coverage that the protests have been getting? The whole world pretty much knows about what's going on in Hong Kong. Still dont understand how this national security law or the fact that Beijing is pulling the strings violates "freedom of expression".
1
@lukef1131 The protests aren't the reason why people are being arrested. Otherwise there would just be 2 million people (or so they say) with a criminal record. People are arrested for rioting, not protesting. But unfortunately, rioting includes the damage of public/private property and assault. Not the best way to express yourself, see. Don't know how it is where you live, but what country or government allows the public desecration of the national flag/emblem/anthem? I'm waiting. Yeah, no kidding it will get worse if the rioters keep their childish behaviour up.

@fatpigeon1066 Seattle isn't a territory? So what is it? A planet? What does being governed by another country have to do with anything? What difference does that make? Seattle was once governed by the Native Americans, if that counts, so there. The Hong Kong government has been encroaching on their freedoms? Like what? Freedom to riot? Give examples. Hong Kong can't voice out their wants for independence? Then how do YOU know that they want to be? Oh, it's because they actually can :P Oh, but independence is what the protests are about isn't it? Along with the fall of the HK government and the Chinese government. Don't tell me you've forgotten about the extradition bill already? That was the whole point of the protests until 1 became 5(6). From a measly extradition bill to a demand for independence, got to hand it to the protestors, that's pretty smart.

@mr.maximilian7721 I'd like to seek freedom and happiness too. Mind if I just rob this here bank? Thanks.

Great! You can start by strapping a bomb to your chest and making a beeline for the Chinese border. Have fun!
