  1. Because we ignored the 1933 moment. Churchill said the time to deal with Germany was in 1933, when Germany broke Versailles. The west did far too little in response to the invasion of the Crimea. They didn’t want to escalate the situation. As in 1933, that isn’t the choice of the appeasers. Putin chose to escalate anyway.
