He was a federalist in his positions, stances and ideas. He was against political parties because he thought they would divide the country along states lines — foreshadowing the Civil War. He wanted a more centralized state.

@Pickleisciouz When did changing Columbus' day "cancel history"? People and especially Natives don't want to celebrate a mass murderer and the precursor of the Transatlantic slave trade anymore. Look up his crimes against the Taino people, it's horrifying.
23
@mujtab8siddiqu1 They should have honestly. The current Native population in the US is only 5% of what it was before Europeans arrived meaning that in 500 years they still haven't recovered. We have a word for that: genocide.
16
@Pickleisciouz And Natives literally had their culture and people erased by Columbus and people like him and here you are, whining about "cOLuMbUs dAy IS nOt CoLumBuS dAy aNyMoRe". Well done snowflake.

Everything is more or less biased. Doesn't mean it's completely wrong. You just have to keep in mind there's more info to look up by yourself.

@lisztdylan7846 Immigration also brings more division in a nation and this is also backed by data (social trust and cohesion decrease as ethnic diversity increases).
3
@paytonaxtell Yeah, he has upheld free speech by giving hush money to his victims and by spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories.
3
@priyamchevdawala2621 Or they could implement new voting systems that allow for more political parties and better representation.
3
@bananawatermelon8552 Because Soutern Democrats were a special kind of Democrats (Dixiecrats) and that the party was already geographically divided on the issue of racism back then. The Democratic Party just got rid of these racists from the South while the GOP welcomed them with open arms (Southern strategy).

@Proxy2255 Pretty sure Obama is less racist and homophobic than Trump, the biggest proponent of the birther conspiracy theory and his VP, Mike "Conversion Therapy" Pence.
2
@LazyClown48 And you buy this excuse wheeze
2
@mynameismanic And Republicans don't have biases and are perfect little angels?...
2
@sarahtaylor4264 Why does this rhetoric only applies to small states? What about bigger ones that are ignored with this system? Californians' or New Yorkers' interests don't matter ? Your country is already run by a handful of people and states and these are predominantly red. There is already the Senate to let every state have the same power. There are local governments. The electoral college is a fraud.

@snyfilms1869 Trump put these facilities well over their capacity and systematically separated families.
2
@Sam When you have to look back 150 years ago to find the last good political move your party did, well, you know that your party aged like milk and didn't adapt to a new world.
1
@pteppig Ah yes, tax cuts and Reaganomics were very carefully prepared plans that didn't wrecked the economy several times. The GOP is not the party that seeks a common ground. It's an extremist death cult and from abroad, it's scary to see how far you can go with f*cking the world.
1
@chollettgarrett His dislike of political parties stemmed from a federalist point of view: he saw that the country would end up divided along geographical lines (states) and that political parties would exacerbate this. He was independent in name only. He wanted a stronger central government to keep the US in one piece.

@lucifernazaedi Washington was a federalist in his stances.

ReALLy mAkEs yOu ThiNk Honestly, I hope you're not older than 12 for this stupid analysis.
1
@anonbeanman7938 Not really. Depends on when, which and what conservative movement you're talking about.
1
@ArturHedlund No, Nazis were not socialist. Hitler didn't really advocated for public ownership of factories and companies, he forbidden trade unions, was allied to conservatives, rich industrialists and right-wing politicians, arrested and put communist and social democratic leaders/activists in camps. That's not very socialist in my opinion.

@KentoKei You don't know the meaning of both these words...
