  1. The Palestinians were offered a two state solution in 1948 by the UN and again in 2000 Camp David by President Clinton. And they turned it down on both occasions. Clinton said Arafat couldn't be trusted. A pity the Palestinians didn't hear that earlier : Arafat stole $3 billion from them. He had to do because that's how he stayed in power for 40yrs : Arafat would bribe his friends and pay-off his enemies. Pity they can't find that $3billion the people could use it to boost their economy.

  2. Dionysos, Not the one presented by the UN in 1948. That was turned down because the Arabs believed they could push the Jews into the sea. Clinton wasn't playing a patsy for Israel.....he takes as much money from the Arabs as the Jews : there was nothing in it for Bill.

  3. Vincent , you know what historians say about Arafat : "He never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity". Arafat was the worst thing that ever happened to the Palestinians. He ruled as a dictator for 40yrs then when he died it was discovered he'd stolen $3billion. Actually Arafat had to do that ; it's how he stayed in power : bribing his friends and paying-off his enemies.

  4. Birds and witches, Wow, they say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and you are giving us all a concrete example of that. Ireland became a state about 50yrs before the bombing of an Parliament member. It was debated in Parliament and the argument for Irish independence was so strong a majority of members voted in favour. There had been the Easter Rising which was a flop.   5. Dionysos, maybe you have a point. But consider the Israeli/Palestine problem in the big sweep of history. Stalin killed 30million Russians, Mao killed 30million Chinese, Pol Pot killed 3 million Cambodians, etc etc The Israelis did forcibly evict Palestinians.....but the Arabs had said they'd push the Jews into the sea. Look at Africa : the Bantu & Zulus spread and took land, cattle and women from every tribe they conquered. Nobody is asking the Zulus to hand it back. And historically the land was Jewish. What is happening in Palestine is hardly the crime of the century. Much better for Palestinians to say ,"Fair enough we lost 3 wars let's make the best of it and try to integrate our economies".

  7. Amar, you seem to have history back to front. The Jews were persecuted in Europe from the time of the Crusades. The Catholic church instigated pogroms against them, monarchs expelled them and confiscated their property, townsfolk would riot and steal Jewish children to baptise - then when ordered by authority to hand them back they would say the children had vanished. The Jews have had a terrible time throughout history. Personally I hate all religions but I know my history which is more than can be said for Amar Zakaria.

  8. Dionysos, you are probably right again. Also, Shlomo Sands and DNA has shown the present day Israelis are actually Caucasian. And the irony is that the dispossessed Palestinians are the original tribes who have converted to Islam. All that aside the Palestinians could do themselves a big favour by adopting democracy and ending corruption. Arafat 40yrs dictator , Fatah a one-party corrupt state. Compare that to Israel which is prosecuting its own president for accepting cigars.

  9. Ahmed, I like your logo. You are right about Stalin I believe he was Georgian. I hope they find the $3 billion Arafat stole from the Palestinians they could invest it in business and infrastructure.
