There are hundreds of examples but I'll give you a few of the top of my head. a) Trial by ordeal : ended by Henry II in 1166 but it took the infallible Pope another 50yrs before he abolished the barbaric practice. b) burning heretics was ended by Edward VI in 1550 then reinstated by Catholic Mary in 1554. But it took the Pope another 200yrs before he abolished it. c) The Jesuits tried to destroy Diderot's manuscript for his great encyclopedia in 1750. The manuscript was concealed in the Paris 'Plice Chief's' office LOL The religious morons hate to see progress , they have been on the back foot ever since the Enlightenment and will soon be extinct.
