History (brief) :- In 1947 Pakistan was 90% illiterate. The peasants listened only to their Imam. The politicians had to pander to the Imams to deliver them the vote. Jinnah wanted a secular state like Britain. He had been educated there and loved the country. Unfortunately the religious crackpots were an irresistible force.

@irfanshan2373 , nonsense ! How does Britain apply ANY Islamic laws. We do have a Pakistani MP Keith Vaz who suggested a blasphemy law for the UK, but the UK has no time for religious crackpots like Mr Vaz. Britain gave the world parliamentary democracy, an independent judiciary and free press. Those are the things Jinnah wanted. Jinnah did not want powerful crackpot Imams to ruin the country.

@theoutpost3608 " One of Pakistan's most popular media outlets, Dawn, was originally founded by Jinnah and identifies as secular..." "On the night of March 7, 2011, Justice (retd) Javid Iqbal was interviewed on a TV channel on the nature of the Pakistani state. He held that Pakistan, as envisaged by Jinnah, was to be a secular state. " Just Googled Jinnah-secular and these are the first two hits.
