New USB wifi adapters do not work with linux. Been there done that 2 months ago. Best suggestion for new Linux users is to dual boot until you get accustomed to Linux. Also, sometimes you NEED Windows for a scant few things like games. Note: when using Linux and you get a kernel update or sometimes an errant software installation, Keep some of the previous Kernels so you can revert back to something what works. You just select what you want on the boot screen - easy. ALWAYS test a chosen live version of Linux before installing to the hard drive. Test everything - sound, video, keyboard, INTERNET, etc. If something doesn't work then try a different Distro. Word of advice with linux - ALWAYS try to get an app that has a GUI. Remembering command line syntax is a royal pain. GUI is just point and click most of the time. Just like Windows does.

@STONE69_ Is a 20-25 year old computer considered new? I eventually bought a USB wifi adapter that does not say anything other than windows and MAC. And yet that one does work. Of course the adapter is like 20 years old or so... New wifi adapters are using an updated method for connection that Linux does not have drivers for.

@notjustforhackers4252 I have yet to find a wifi adapter box that says Linux compatible, Every one I looked at said Windows or MAC. I cannot find an intel wifi adapter in any stores near me either.
