Right. Having just broken through a deadbolted door does anyone think he was to about to be calm and peaceful and logical once inside?

@joleenshadows The guy got his head and shoulders in the door at least in the unedited footage. You can't see his feet, but he definitely gets across the threshold, not that that matters actually. After the first shot, which looks to have hit him in the left shoulder as he was entering, he turns and runs. The report in the local paper says that shots two and three had glass fragments in them, meaning that as the father shot twice more, as he was clearly taught in his gun handling and self defense classes, he could not see where the intruder was, because the intruder's location was obscured by the door. So the father could not have known whether the intruder had run away or whether he was about to make a second attack, perhaps with a weapon.

@mariosangermano5709 He had broken down the door and was in the process of entering.

@dlhamilt Criminals in Canada are all carrying handguns.

@treytillman5454 The ex girlfriend had not called him. He had called her the night before. The person who spoke to him in the side yard was a neighbour.

@oni-stormgaming6224 He broke the door down. Completely. He was in the process of entering when shot.
1
@Babs27 He did get the door open. He started entering. This is clear in the video.

@gungadingo I'm Canadian and even I will not go back.

@joleenshadows The father fired three bullets in rapid succession and under intense stress.

@mariosangermano5709 How would the father have known id the man was armed or not? You only know after the fact. If a person breaks down your front door, you can safely infer that they are threatening you, whether they verbally say so or not. And you can also safely infer that he will harm you once he has gained entry. The young man broke the door down and was shot while entering.

@mariosangermano5709 He was entering the house. There is no need for him to make it all the way in having broken a deadbolted door down.
1
@mariosangermano5709 He was clearly a deadly threat. Breaking down a locked door MUST be assumed to be a deadly threat.

@newsome32412 The first shot was not through the glass. He was entering the home.
1
@newsome32412 You are victim blaming.

@steviegbcool Breaking down the door signals intent.
1
@steviegbcool It shows intent to violence and thus it proves immediate danger.

Criminals all over Australia have hand funs, as do the police. It's just the innocent law-abiding citizens who are not allowed to protect themselves.
