  13.  @lucilleannedeen741  Do you still pay for a ticket if you take public transit? Do you pay a hydro bill for an electric company run by the government? What part of emergency and essential services should never be in the hands of greedy for-profit corporations do you find hard to understand? Did Jesus say that telecom should be run by for-profit corporations or is it a law of nature? Don't worry the cost of telecom in Canada is the highest in the world, so what do you have to lose? Imagine if public transit was in hands of for-profit corporations during the lockdown. They either have to go under or reduce the number of routes and lay off a lot of drivers or they would have made the tickets $20 one way. The public transit can run in the minus - nobody expects them to make a profit because that's not what they are supposed to do. In the US over 1 million died because of COVID but the for-profit insurance companies and Big Pharma made gazillion of dollars. And they also pretend that they have competition but the biggest competition is they are really scared off of people buying health insurance directly from the government. Telecom should be run by the government just like the police, public transit, and fire departments. Just imagine if they were for profit as well. I guess what you're trying to say is that there's a difference in cost between a flip phone and an iPhone. I understand that but the Canadian government can negotiate a better price for devices with Apple, Google Samsung, etc because they would have about 30 million client base. They will have bigger negotiation power. Everybody will have access to affordable unlimited plans the cost of which would depend on whether they want to use data or not and how much data and they will have to pay off their device on financing as they do right now. All customer services reps will be in Canada and they will be hourly employees who won't get any commissions. No more constant price increases, ridiculous fees - the cost of SIM card is $20.
