If Nazis were true economic socialists, then every authoritarian government and many mixed economy liberal democratic states are also socialist and the historical principles of socialist economics such as redistribution of wealth to eliminate classes and government ownership of most or all industry don’t matter. We’re basically just using “socialism” as an endlessly elastic catch all for anything we don’t like. It’s essentially an inversion of the “no true Scotsman fallacy.”

@nicknolte8671 I think it’s dishonest. I have a problem with any authoritarianism too. But it is important to draw distinctions between forms of authoritarianism of the left and forms of authoritarianism on the right. They’re not all the same. They are not all socialism. Otherwise we’re not looking in all directions where authoritarianism can originate from.

@nicknolte8671 And that’s a perspective that creates an extreme distortion of historical reality. You may as well say “I am an anarcho capitalist. So I can’t see anything for what it is.”

@nicknolte8671 Yeah and for all his cherry picking of history he hasn’t figured out that his brand of anarcho-capitalism is an anachronism to the past that he’s trying futilely to locate it within. This whole page should be retitled “An attempt to retrofit anarcho-capitalism onto a past where it didn’t really exist”

In other words “Hitler must be a socialist, because it’s impossible for capitalism to be evil or to work under authoritarian rule. Evil only happens on the left.”
