It has a certain internal logical consistency but it’s also based on a lot of ridiculous and irrational premises for instance that “inferior” people aren’t capable of establishing nations.

@annatanneberger1 It’s not being taught that Nazis were leftist because they weren’t and presenting anyone with a distorted picture of history that leaves them blind to danger on the right is irresponsible.

@bruggeman672 Well if that were really the reason it wasn’t being taught you’d have a point. But the real reason it isn’t being taught is because it’s not what happened. The Nazis were indeed evil. But it does not therefore follow that they were leftist. The premise of the explanation that you can’t justify evil logically here seems to be that evil only happens in leftist governments and ideology, which is an absurd utopian cult belief that only an ideologue with no connection to reality could believe. It also flies in the face of the abundant contradictions between Nazi ideology and actions and leftist ideology throughout history.

@choosecarefully408 Propaganda is using deception to distort or obscure the facts. The facts are that the Nazis neither pursued a leftist economic program nor adhered to leftist principles. About all you can say is that they used some of the rhetoric of leftist especially early in their history before Hitler hijacked the party.

@choosecarefully408 People who get tricked by a demagogue in an Orwellian scheme designed to benefit him never like to admit it. They much prefer to think that they’re not being swayed by “the enemy” that he picks for them and to admit that they’re just blindly following him. But he’s just designating an enemy to distract from his own evil acts.

@choosecarefully408 Demagogues and knaves hide their crimes and corruption of the truth by Reframing any attempt to expose them as political partisanship rather than simply as ethics. Everything being partisan allows them to avoid responsibility for their amoral behavior. That’s how they destroy the very concept of objective truth.

@bogdanpopescu1401 the free market or classical liberal capitalism is a relatively new idea. Authoritarian capitalism like that of Nazi Germany is much older dating all the way back to the origins of capitalism in renaissance Italy. Your problem is that you’re only seeing this from the perspective of contemporary anarcho libertarian ideology. Hitler actually claimed that individual liberty and democracy weakened capitalism by subjecting property owners to too much control by workers who had too many rights and privileges they could assert to limit private property rights with

@bogdanpopescu1401 the word capitalism actually dates from the late 17th century(long before Marx) and the system is much older than that. Throughout its history capitalism has been used far more often under authoritarian governments than within free societies as the term is understood today. Hitler had solid historical justification for his opinion that capitalism depends on strong government limits on individual freedom.

@pierrelabounty9917 it’s much more consistent with human nature to become irrationally devoted to an ideology to the point that you will try to force everything into it, leading to absurd rationalizations like “fascists are actually on the far left because my ideology doesn’t allow for any flaws to exist on the right, any great evil to be possible, because my ideology says that the right can only equal freedom therefore, anything that’s evil and oppressive can’t be on the right.” This is when you refuse to accept any evidence in the world to the contrary. This is the mindset of the anarcho libertarian ideologue.
