It is obvious the GTR is an eyesore for the Porsche fans. They can't get rid of this GTR what ever they do. Porsche has now introduced most of what GTR had in the early 90:s, AWD,AWS and the extendable front lip. Still they cant match the system Nissan uses to make this heavy GTR dance. That is actually the amazing thing with GTR. Most of us prefer the Porsche but there is no denying GTR has high merits. The Nismo is coming to challenge the Turbo and GT2 RS so watch out.

Should you not put this top spec Porsche against top spec GTR? The new Nismo GTR? And when Chris Harris brought a modified Litchfield GTR to the track it demolished the last gen Porsche turbo and the new R8 V10+ We all agree the Porsche is nicer and better in almost all aspects (after all it cost 2x) but this was a test to see how fast they are and for the GTR to be only 0.4 sec slower (lets even say 1 sec) it's amazing.

Toxxic88 I'm a Porsche fan too. But it's too many Porsche fan hating on GTR. So it's not so much generalizing.

ewt415 That time was the track edition of Nisom GTR. Just like Porsche has 10 different 911, GTR has a few editions also. The GTR Nismo is not that far behind the track edition. And when Porsche sat the time with 918, according to Porsche it took ONE month of preparations. How realistic is that time? You think others can just jump in a 918 and go that fast? Other will be far behind that time in a similar 918.

Omar Baxter If you say so I believe you. I don't thing the 959 had an extendable front lip or all wheel steering which Nissan had back in the early 90:s but I might be wrong. The first of the new GTR in 2009 was as fast, if not faster, than Porsche turbo of the last generation. It was bigger, heavier, and much cheaper. My admiration of GTR is not the quality, price or anything like that. It's the system they use to make this big and heavy car go incredibly fast. Porsche is known for making light fast cars and their technology is second to none. But how can this GTR that is around 3-400 kg heavier go as fast? And it is not because it has more power. The 2009 model have even less power than Porsche turbo. And it's not AWD all the time like Porsche. It's rear wheel drive and only when they start to slip that power goes to front wheels. And it happens seamless. My admiration is of that system and GTR is best at it.

swunt10 Or a VW Beetle styled Porsche. Why not buy a real sports car that is desirable at the same time and a beauty. A Ferrari.

Most of the people that can easily afford a Ferrari would buy just that.... if you cannot afford a 458 Italia then you play the the "value for money" card of the Porsche and you wish that it will be enough to ease the pain ... ;) Joking aside Ferrari is the super car while Porsche is the daily driver.

jamietherooster I don't think it can beat the Nismo's time at the ring. That time is not far from the Porsche 918 time.

aatish sadasing Then we have to wait forever :)

ewt415 When Chris Harris brought a modified Litchfield GTR to the track it demolished the last gen Porsche turbo and the new R8 V10+. It would have done the same with this new Porsche.
1
ewt415 Actually I was thinking of Chris Harris. He said we always bring in a GTR that beat everything so this time we brought a slightly modified GTR since price difference is so huge we thought we can allow us one that's been modified. Just to see how it works.

Toxxic88 If so then who are all the people responding to all posts calling the GTR a video game with no driving feelings anytime there is a discussion between the two groups?

***** I agree with you on petrol heads and that competition is good. I'm not saying Nissan invented all that but they also used a lot of that kind of technology also long time ago. Just because it's a Nissan doesn't mean they can't build a good sports car. It's too many here looking down at Nissan and think Porsche has to be great per automatic and beat everything. I think it's a great car specially how it can go so fast considering all that weight.
1
***** Agree with you on many things. I don't think Nissan build GTR to beat companies like Porsche or Ferrari i driver feeling, but in numbers as you say. I think they wanted to build a car that beats very fast cars. And considering the price it looks like they did the job. I often have driven a Lotus Elise and that is a drivers car for me. Low power but 100% feel good. Porsche is an icon and great sports car. I'm a Porsche fan myself. I would pick Porsche over GTR any day. I just don't think everything is as one sided as many want to make them.

e6o When Chris Harris brought a modified Litchfield GTR to the track it demolished the last gen Porsche turbo and the new R8 V10+

e6o Chris Harris point was since the price difference is so big he allowed him self to bring a slightly modified GTR that time and the GTR was still much cheaper than both the other cars. Both on track and drag race it demolished both cars. I have always had one admiration of the GTR. How can Nissan make such a heavy car do all that? Porsche tries the very same thing but never gets the same result. If you remember, the GTR of the 90:s had AWD, AWS and the extendable front lip. All of which Porsche now has introduced.

jamietherooster You are right. Cars like GTR, M5 or Porsche are daily cars. They are not that special. But Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin, these are super cars you notice.
1
porsche numberone The same says Corvette fans. Porsche is very special but not as special as the cars mentioned.
1
That is what all Ferrari fans say when you compare a beautiful Ferrari with any Porsche.
1
swunt10 Actually I like Porsche very much. But to beat on GTR like so many do is not right. Porsche is an icon and I love most of their cars but that is not a reason to hat on other cars. GTR has it's merits. It might not be the best drivers car but it's fast in the real world daily drive. After introduction 2009 it's been improving a lot. So give it some credit.
