They have been saying for at least 23 years "America: Love it or Leave it." This is the goal. Taking their country back means that they don't believe that Constitutional protections or the benefits of citizenship therein apply to anyone who doesn't look, think, and believe the way they do. Thus, they don't want leftists to leave the state, but to leave the country completely. Think about how Republicans were persona non grata in the South just before the election of Lincoln. They want enclaves of power in the states where white male christian cultural hegemony rules without accountability.
