Go after the Confederate Memorial at Arlington. It has "loyal slaves" carved into it.

@not-so-smartaleck8987 I think it's in section 16. That monument is going to be more difficult to come down, however having the faithful slave enshrined on a former slave plantation where they were stripped and beaten is pretty insulting to their memories. Public spaces are complicated in this fashion, as are German internment camps where there are German soldiers buried on the same premises as their Jewish prisoners. It's difficult to navigate from a public history standpoint. I don't see how a monument such as that really is helpful because more people are going to get the "Glory to the honored Confederacy" message from it rather than the "Well, the UDC put this up and that's the loyal slave narrative which was part of the plantation sentimentalist memory of the time that is really untrue and minimizes the reasons for secession and the plight of enslaved peoples, but here it stands for us to perpetuate that controversy so let's go get refreshments, kiddos."

Did everyone notice that the George Floyd protest news cycle seems to have shifted?

Gregory Williams Because their message isn't newsworthy?

@josh420masterB I certainly don't but when the larger American public is allowed to forget that people are marching it makes it easier for police to crack down on them and allows the movement to fizzle. We saw the same thing with the Occupy protests. The news grows weary when there's no more riot porn to sell for ratings.

@josh420masterB I think after Vietnam, the government really doesn't want to see left-wingers protest for policy changes.

@josh420masterB Maybe. Or it goes away. See if you can procure a copy of Jack Goldstone's "Revolutions: A Very Short Introduction" and see how revolutions begin, evolve, and what it takes for them to succeed or fail. You will see how far we have to go. I think you can find it on pdf and it is a very short read. Maybe just read Chapter one and then recommend it to other people to read.
