China would and probably will fight to reunify. It's more important to them than economic trade. When they are confident that they can achieve it regardless of who tries to stand in their way, they will make their move.

Russia has valid reasons to despise the United States. In the 1990s we raped the Russian economy, backstabbed them diplomatically by supporting anti-Russian movements and parties within the countries who had traditionally been within their realm of influence, even going so far as to bring the Baltic countries into NATO and the EU after directly promising that we would not do that, and we demoralized the Russian people by arrogantly flaunting our "victory" over them on the world stage. And one man who definitely holds a grudge against the United States over this is none other than the president of Russia himself, Vlad the man, Putin.

While I agree with your overall assessment, his position is the right one for a military strategist. He has to assume the worst, and he has to try to figure out how best to defend against it, regardless of its likelihood. His scenario at the end shows a proper understanding. He has a good grasp on what China would do if it chose to take Taiwan now, but he says it would be a miscalculation. I'm pretty sure the Chinese have a similar assessment, which is why you won't see it happen. But it theoretically could, and our military high command needs to be ready just in case.

@Gary Krug Hungary was an Axis country, Russia stabbed them in the face. Estonia and Latvia were absorbed in the thirties. China's not trying to take anything from freedom loving people. Freedom loving people are trying to take an awful lot from China. China is strong, they'll survive anything short of a global catastrophe. I wish I could say the same about the United States. I'm optimistic though. I think both countries can have a great future so long as they don't decide to go to war with each other.
