There is no right to free speech in America. There are many things you're not allowed to say legally. So if there are already boundaries on speech, then all we are doing is refining that line. It shouldn't be surprising that there are things that are said that may be legal but are morally unjust. Generally hate speech falls into this category

@Joe V we have always had a majority that did not love thy neighbor for one reason or another. Whether it was slavery, Japanese internment camps, or Mexicans in America. We have always hated someone. Generally, the people doing the hating have been our conservative population. Some demographics were hated longer than others, but it has always been there. So too has the love of our country always had a large demographic who didn't.. Conservatives seem to lose that when they don't get their way evidenced by the Civil War and lately, just losing the election. The Black population didn't have much love for hundreds of years, and neither did many of the immigrants that have come here. Your utopia is a white persons idea of what America was without ever acknowledging; many didn't see it the same way.

@Dave Ruckert that's not true for most students. Some yes like we saw with the admissions scandals, but that's a small fraction.of the overall student body
