  2. My taxes are high because the 400 billion in capital flight from America every year is never taxed. Along with the trillions held in offshore accounts. The other reason is our tax code allows corporations to pay next to nothing. No tax base from the rich so the middle class has to pick up the slack.

  3.  @amgirl4286  that's the reason for the minimum tax rate internationally. All we are doing as countries is one big race to the bottom by giving the wealthy all they want. If the tax rate was doubled they would still work and innovate because that's what they do.

People see them as job providers so we should give them anything they ask, including favorable tax rates and construction of pass through companies. I don't, I see them as citizens who are talented and will get more out of life than ones who are not. What I don't see is the reason we give them any special advantages tax wise, over anyone else. They have already created a market that small businesses cannot compete with. Try opening a hardware store these days. Just their buying power alone can keep them at the top. We don't need to give them more.

  13.  @elric58  sorry I should have been clearer. It's their corporations not paying taxes. They use their corps as slush funds and piggy banks because the money can be deductible. Directly avoiding paying taxes on that money that was essentially used for personal reasons.

The reason they still hold the confederate flag to a high regard is because it's a conservatives flag. Liberals never owned the south, conservatives did.

  31.  @cranbers  first off I am a big proponent of a flat tax. Just the simplicity will save billions a year. Along with these ease of calculating for a small business who would need to keep a running tally so they can pay their share at the end of the year. Second, a Corp who does a billion a year in business who needs 10 million for taxes could easily get a loan or sell an asset to make up the shortfall. Just like a small business would. This is only my opinion though. I don't see enough will in government to ever see this happen.

  35.  @cranbers  I agree with what you said but there is no way any company that does a billion dollars in business is going to leave 10 million to be taxable. They could just as easily, and most likely would, buy a Gulfstream jet or other asset and take the write off. Leaving them to have made earnings and grow, without contributing to the tax base.

  37.  @emily4439  they don't just pay themselves one million. That would just be stupid from the tax perspective. They use Corp dollars for personal expenses and write it off as a corporate deduction. Never actually having the cash in their personal account to be taxed. Hell I do that but not nearly as well as people with more cash and better accountants do.

So, I am not sure what more we can do to make this a more business friendly environment other than actally breaking up monopolies like you said. Problem is every industry is now beholden to their respective monopoly. Not service industry obviously, but anything that sells goods is out due to big box stores and Amazon. Construction sector is the same way with the bigger guys having the buying power so they can produce buildings cheaper. I don't know if you can even fix this problem inside a capitalist system

Eliminate impoting goods that could be made at home. Cap the numbers of employees one person can have. Cap the overall market share of any company in their given field. Flat tax on everyone's gross pay. Maybe, cap the amount one person can own in stock share to a specific value. You can still go after the American Dream in a system like this, you just cap out and leave room for others to own in the industry. I'm just throwing ideas around here. The free capitalist markets have lead to far too much in equality even to those who work their hands to the bone.

  56.  @jp92382  you are right in your first reply. Legal loop holes and tax avoidance is something that needs to be looked at. But let's get some perspective here. Of the total tax revenue America collects around 45% comes from personal income tax. Of that 45% the rich pay a big share of it. That's not the problem. The problem is corporations on make up 3.5% of the gross tax revenue. It's within those corporations is where the rich hold most of their wealth. If you include that, then one can only conclude they are not paying enough.
