Indoctrination so early? These kids need to learn about this when their brains are developed enough to process it. Socioeconomics and politics should be taught alongside civics, not while they've just barely learned their addresses.

Yep. "America" owned slaves for about 80 years. Not to mention all black people weren't slaves, and all slaves weren't black people. Not only that, but not all whites owned slaves, and not all slave owners were white. They're leaving big chunks of the story out.

@glurppuffloid9796 oh, so adult themes and situations should be taught to a four year old? "White man bad" is what they should think in kindergarten?

@glurppuffloid9796 civil war is typically taught in high school. Kids in grade school or even middle school shouldn't be discussing adult themes. Does that make any sense to you, or should we be teaching them about the treaty of Versailles in 3rd grade?

@glurppuffloid9796 Wonkadoo? You're an educator? Cathy Bates, is that you?

@glurppuffloid9796 I said GRADE schooler. You know, K-6?

@glurppuffloid9796 look. You have questions, and seem like a rational person. People USED to teach their next generations HOW to think, not WHAT to think. Teaching someone what to think is textbook indoctrination. We're basically teaching them not to argue with authority, then giving authority free reign over the minds of our children. Whether the topic is slavery or history in general, the children are growing up thinking the greatest country the world has ever known is a piece of garbage. If l hadn't said it yet, slavery only existed in America for 80 years. Only 6% of the entire population even owned slaves, and most of them moved between the revolution and the Emancipation Proclamation. They were offered a free ride home, or could stay and take their "40 acres and a mule". That was a done deal 150 years ago.

@glurppuffloid9796 I never said that the U.S. is "God's divine" anything. You've put words in my mouth, and for that? I'm going to end this conversation by saying that people are risking their lives to get into America. That's saying alot when the same isn't reciprocal. The only people risking their lives to get into another country are those trying to ESCAPE situations like socialism. If someone escapes INTO socialism, it's only because of life and death. But, whatever. America stands alone pretty much. Millions of applications and visas coming here for an education, citizenship or just to work speaks for itself. All things considered(i.e. freedoms of speech, religion, free movement, opportunity, rewards, etc.)? America is the greatest country in the world as we know it.

You're working against your own argument. We take in the best and brightest of impoverished countries, and they often do not return. Out media paints people that have the will to cross jungles, deserts and raging rivers to get to America as pathetic and weak, when we all know pathetic and weak people wouldnt(and couldnt) make the trip. They often have to cross past hostile criminals and police to get here, too. Those are the PHYSICALLY strong ones. The ones who can afford, take flights and boats. These people are not only crafty, but determined. THAT'S why we are so innovative as a nation. If they would only follow the law... Alot of times good people are coerced into smuggling contraband against their better judgement and beliefs or values. That's the shittiest part of the whole situation for them. Now their family and friends back home are at risk and don't even know it. As far as the "bloody civil wars" go? That's only a smaller portion of the people coming here for a better life(particularly from south and central America). The only countries that match our innovations and technologies and match political and social freedoms are countries that are European. Even THEN, they retain freedoms of speech and self defense. You didn't apologize for putting words in my mouth. America(all factors involved) is the best country in the world. Only an idiot would want to live in Sweden. Australia and Canada are the only two countries that come close, and they're STILL second and third (respectively) in terms of free markets and unmolested travel.

@glurppuffloid9796 Even if I agreed with every point you made, would you expect an 8 year old to read what you just wrote and understand any of it? No. They wouldn't. These are adult concepts and can only be discussed by people at or over the intelligence bell curve. Now look back at my original comment, and tell me where I was wrong. You challenged me here. Yes. I'm saying MOST (if not all) legal immigrants come here from financially healthy or physically healthy families. Very few of legal or illegal immigrants are the "tired..weak and weary" or are actual asylum seekers as the UN defines them. We dont see Hillary supporters crashing the Mexican border. Do we?

@scottinamcqueen6895 By the same people. Resrarch "The modified Bellamy Salute" Then figure out why we must pledge our allegiance to a flag instead of our God or family FIRST AND FOREMOST. Same people telling children that Abe Lincoln was a good person.
