  1. The problem is 100% of almost everyones power comes from a grid in the first place. Very few of us have our own power generation and storage, yet so many of us have south-facing roof going to waste. Total dependency on a large, outside infrastructure system to survive in your home in the first place is the issue. New homes should be built to around at least SOME home generation and fresh water farming to begin with. As a standard item.

  2. Solar + Power banking in your garage, ftw. I love when we get a blackout in my neighborhood. Me and my neighbor glow like the warm, happy center of a dark universe when the rest of the neighborhood is scrambling to find candles and transfer things from the fridge to a cooler so they don't spoil. The schadenfreude alone made the cost worth it.

  3.  @craiggillett5985  I would say the same thing to Germany, etc. though too. They and others are going to have to figure out how to get off Russia's natural gas supply. They need to step up not just renewable, domestic sources for mitigation but also decentralization from total grid dependancy. Just like us, and...well...EVERYONE. Bad, obsolete grids that maximize profits for shareholders and petro state dictatorships having their hooks in the survival of others is as much a political threat to the survival of a nation as a street-level survival issue.
